Congresswoman Jackson Lee received her undergraduate degree from Yale University, graduating from the Honors Program in Political Science. She went on to receive her Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and The Link’s Inc. Congresswoman Jackson Lee is a proud wife, mother of two, and grandmother of twin grandchildren.

Key Accomplishments:

  • Affordable Care Act (ACA): Jackson Lee played a significant role as a co-sponsor in the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. The ACA expanded healthcare coverage, protected individuals with pre-existing conditions, and emphasized preventive care. It aimed to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to millions of Americans.

  • Healthcare Equality and Access for Reservists and Their Dependents Act (H.R. 6196): Sheila introduced this bill to expand healthcare access for reservists and their dependents. It sought to ensure that these individuals have adequate healthcare coverage, regardless of their service status.

  • Fostering Success in Education Act (H.R. 5281): This bill improved educational outcomes for foster youth by providing additional support and resources to ensure their success in the education system.

  • Protecting the DREAM Act of 2019 (H.R. 2820): As a co-sponsor, Jackson Lee supported this legislation, which aimed to protect the rights of undocumented immigrant youth, often referred to as Dreamers.   • American Dream and Promise Act (H.R. 6): Supported this legislation, which focused on protecting the rights of Dreamers and individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED). The bill provided a pathway to citizenship.
